Does your employer outsource but prevent you from working from home...

Would it be fascinating if enterprise architecture could bring these two notions into alignment...

I have heard many employees rant about the silliness of accounting for time without acknowledging that their ideas are actually on track. Let's start by acknowledging that outsourced contracts are managed by deliverable, not by accounting for hours.

So, if us enterprisey types didn't have to account for time but did have to account for deliverables, how efficient would we become? Would my calendar be filled with chock-a-block eye candy Powerpoint presentations that lack substance? Would we have to spend so much time socializing architecture goodness instead of just having folks do the right thing?

The notion of accounting for hours is the recent cancer on IT. Think about it for a second that many IT organizations now have a role for controllers. Have you ever considered how many folks work in an IT organization but otherwise are not IT professionals...
