Thoughts on why Gartner is so successful...

Industry analysts serve a purpose of rating the quality of software not based on the actual quality of software but on how many companies buy it. Those ratings are then used by companies to determine what software to buy.

I wonder what would happen if I could get fifty companies to purchase one and only one copy of my Hello World application so that thousands IT executives would realize that they are behind the eight ball and also need to purchase Hello World solely from me?

I wonder how many support contracts I could get for Hello World?
