Best of Breed Programming

James Robertson has a brilliant idea of shipping Smalltalk as a DLL. Feels like a great way of wrapping legacy Smalltalk applications and adding value via enterprise languages such as Java and .NET. Too many shops attempt to turn everything into a reusable service when the better approach may be to componentize them.

Carving up Smalltalk applications into callable pieces so that the platform can be ultimately retired chunk-by-chunk reduces the risk of being able to find competent developers in legacy languages and makes for a great enterprise strategy that I think others will embrace...
