Should I become an Industry Analyst?

I previously blogged on my thoughts on Becoming an Industry Analyst in the world of gaming as enterprise software is starting to become boring and figured I could do so in an open source way focus in on the following three things:

  • Challenges Facing the Console Gaming Industry: Console gaming has seen strong growth recently. Gamers have come to a market with marked improvements in graphics and storytelling. The industry is now facing rising costs, potential maturity of the market and challenges from conservative organizations.

  • In Game Advertising as a potential revenue source: As television advertising loses its effectiveness, advertisers must reach a largely segmented audience with discerning tastes. Could this be a model where games are given away freely?

  • Gaming and Emerging Markets: How will countries such as India, China, Brazil and Russia embrace gaming as the cost of Personal Computers decline and the costs of home connectivity improve?

  • A comparison of gaming engines: The price of licensing an engine ranging from $100 on the low-end for Torque to well into the six figures for Unreal provides an opportunity for others to understand what features and other considerations they should think about before purchasing.

  • Anyone interested in writing this research with me?
